GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Enrolment

The enrolment procedure for our Spanish course can be done:

In order to enrol in our Spanish courses students need to be at least 18 years old. Students under the age of 18 will only be accepted under the supervision of a legal representative who accepts and signs the terms and conditions of Be Canary School.

Once we receive the application, the booking and payment information will be sent to the student. After receiving the information students need to pay a 50€ deposit in advance to confirm the booking. The 50€ deposit will be deducted from the total amount of your booking.

Once the deposit is transferred an invoice detailing the remaining amount to be paid will be sent. The remaining amount of your booking has to be transferred 1 month prior to the beginning of the course. If that is not the case, the booking will be canceled.

Your name and your ID or passport number have to be written in the transfer description.

Students will take care of the expenses and commissions charged by the emitting bank.

By paying the 50€ deposit students acknowledge that they have read and accepted the terms and conditions for this service.

Enrolment fee or social networks

All of our courses have a 20€ enrolment fee that needs to be handed over before departure. Be Canary School will not charge the enrolment fee if the student recommends our school in our Facebook, Twitter or Google+ profile.

Conditions for residents in Gran Canaria

If you want to be elegible for the 15% residents discount you need to meet one of the following requirements:

  • Show an official document that states that you are staying for longer than three months in Gran Canaria such as an employment contract, leasing agreement, hotel booking, etc.
  • Show your Foreign Citizens Identification Number (NIE)

The discount is only valid for bookings with a minimum length of 1 month.

Level test

Once you fill the enrolment form a level test to check your Spanish level will be sent to the e-mail address provided. The test must be filled and returned not later than one week prior to the beginning of the course.

We can also schedule a Skype interview if needed. Once the Spanish level is tested Be Canary School will place the students in the course that fits them best.

Class planning and timetables

A lesson consists of 50 minutes.
The teachers are native Spanish speakers and the lessons will only be taught in Spanish.
Starting dates for the courses will take place on the first and third week of each month.
Starting dates for students without any previous knowledge of Spanish will take place on the first week of each month.
The maximum number of students per class will be 10.
The minimum number of students per class will be 4. If Be Canary School does not reach the minimum number of students, the course will be canceled or there will be less teaching hours. If the course is canceled due to not having enough students, Be Canary School will suggest a later starting date or will refund any payment made.
Lessons will take place from Monday to Friday in morning and afternoon shifts. Be Canary School opens every day excluding bank holidays. The following dates are bank holidays in Gran Canaria:

Good Friday and Easter Monday

Bank holidays in Gran Canaria:

Bank holidays in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

Lessons booked on bank holidays will be assigned to the other days of the week, making the lessons of those days 50 minutes longer.

If there are two bank holidays in the same week, Be Canary School will only close one of them.

According to Spanish legislation, bank holidays that take place on Sundays will be transferred to the following Monday.

The student will not lose any booked lessons under any circumstances.

Arrival

Once the full payment is made, detailed information regarding how to get to the school will be sent.

Students must send arrival details to Be Canary School one week prior to their arrival. Students must send their arrival date and time as well as the flight code.

Students need to check in before 23:00 on the Sunday prior to the beginning of the course. If students arrive after the beginning of the course Be Canary School will not reimburse any missed lessons.

Students need to pay a deposit when checking in. The amount of the deposit depends on the accommodation choosed, you will of course be informed of the amount before confirming your booking. The deposit will be returned if the apartment is found in the same conditions when checking out.

Accommodation

Accommodation details will be sent to the students one week before arrival.

The accommodation week starts at 14:00 on the Sunday prior to the beginning of the course and ends at 12:00 on the Saturday after the course is finished.

Students who need extra nights must book them in advance. Extra nights cost 50€ per night.

Students must notify Be Canary School if they want to share a room with someone who will not attend any of our courses. Guests will be able to stay after transferring the accommodation fare for the desired dates.

The room will be given clean and will have clean linen and towels on arrival. Students are responsible for keeping the room clean and tidy during their stay. The apartment must be returned clean and in the same condition it was given. If that is not the case the accommodation deposit will not be returned.

Shared rooms are only for two people traveling together.

Course materials

Course material will be available online for the student with no extra cost. Students are responsible of bringing the material corresponding to each lesson..

Due to our environmental policy, Be Canary School will not print any course material for the students

Insurance

It is highly recommended for students who are members of the European Union to apply for the European Health Insurance Card before travelling to Spain.

Cancelation policy

Students who want to cancel a booking must send a written notification to Be Canary School in advance.

Our cancelation policy is as follows:

  • 3 months in advance: Be Canary School will reimburse any payment made.
  • Between 3 months and 1 month: Be Canary School will not reimburse the 50€ deposit.
  • Less than 1 month: Be Canary School will keep 40% of the money transferred. The money will be saved until the end of the current year for the student to choose a later date during that time. If that is not the case, the money will not be reimbursed.
  • Less than 1 week: Be Canary School will keep 100% of the accommodation fees and 40 % of the course fees. The course fees will be saved until the end of the current year for the student to choose a later date during that time. If that is not the case, the money will not be reimbursed.

Cancellations arriving after 20:00 GMT or CET -1 of the last working day prior to the beginning of the course will not be accepted.

Course dates change

The starting date of the booked course can be postponed to a later date if students send a written notification to Be Canary School and the class the student wants to join is not full. Postponing the course has no extra charges.

If the student booked accommodation with us, they must send a written notification to Be Canary School one month prior to the beginning of the course.

Certificate of attendance

Students who attend 80% of the lessons will obtain the certificate of attendance of Be Canary School. The certificate of attendance proves that a student has done a Spanish course that follows Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Pictures and advertising

Be Canary School has the right to take pictures during the lessons and activities to promote the school. If that is the case, students will be notified in advance.
