Do teachers have a qualification in teaching languages?

Our teachers have both international experience and qualification in teaching Spanish as a foreign language. All of our teachers speak English, among other languages.

Are the lessons from English to Spanish?

No. We teach in Spanish and we try not to use any other language. At the beginning of the class we will explain some sentences and structures for you to be able to ask things you don’t understand such as:

¿Qué significa la palabra “xxxxxx”? / ¿What does the word “xxxxxx” mean?

We try to explain things using images, gestures and other techniques. We will use your language only as a last resort if you didn’t understand.

Can you start the course on any date or are there set starting dates?

Depending on your level. If you have no previous knowledge in the Spanish language, there is a set date: the first Monday of every month.

If you can speak some Spanish you could start on any date.

Private lessons can be also started on any date, even if you are a beginner.

How long are the lessons?

A group lesson has 50 teaching minutes and a private lesson has 55.

Are the classes separated in beginner, intermediate and advanced levels or all together?

Of course beginners and advanced students are in different classes.

What is the average age on the courses?

The age ranges from 20-70. We recommend you to have a look at our Facebook profile to get a better idea of our students profile.

When do I receive additional information about the course, accommodation and how to get there?

Information about the course schedule will be sent one week before the course starts. For any additional info that you require about course information, accommodation and how to get here, feel free to ask.

I’ve finally decided to learn Spanish. Since I always spend my vacations in Gran Canaria, is it possible to apply for the resident 15% discount?

You can always get the 15% resident discount, as long as you live in Gran Canaria for more than 2 months and book at least 1 month of lessons.

Could I have the lessons at home?

Lessons at home could be done depending on the schedule and how far you live. An extra transport charge will be added to the course, please send us a message with your approximate location and we will send you an estimate of the course.

We also do Skype lessons, but we strongly recommend you to come to the school if you are in Gran Canaria to get the feeling of Be Canary School.

Is it possible to reach your school by bus from San Agustín/Puerto Rico/Mogán?

Yes, there is a bus stop just 2 minutes by feet away from the school. The name of the stop is C.C. Nilo, and the bus number is 01. If you are departing from other locations, just get in touch and we will help you!

Do I have to pay any extras for the material of the course?

The price of the course includes free access to our online campus, where you will find the material of the lessons in downloadable PDF format. You can use it in your laptop, or on our tablet or smartphone app without printing. The wifi access to the school is also included, just ask for it in Spanish!  🙂

If you prefer it, we also have a book for the beginners course which includes the same material you will find online at an extra cost.

What do I bring with me to the lessons?

A pen and some paper, and the material of the lessons in the way you prefer.

I want to print the material myself.

We recommend you to print just the exercises. Talk to any of our teachers before doing it!

What are private lessons for?

Private lessons are a good way to focus on specific needs. If your goal is to speak Spanish in the least time possible, we actually recommend you to try the Intensive Course as, statistically, in the group lessons there is more speaking practice as you will talk to more people.

How do private lessons work?

Private lessons can be booked hour by hour or you can get a package of 10 or 20 lessons. If you are going to study regularly we recommend using an lessons package as the price per hour is cheaper.

How does the package work?

The lessons package works as follows: you buy 10 or 20 lessons with a cheaper price per hour and you use them whenever you want. There is no deadline to use your package.

How do I schedule my private lessons? How frequent are the lessons?

You just have to tell us which is the schedule you would like to have! The frequency of the lessons is also your choice, but we recommend to have a minimum of 2 lessons per week.

If the schedule you asked for is already booked, we will suggest an alternative. If it is available, we will confirm your lessons.

You can plan your lessons from 9-19. Please take into account that the time slot from 9-12 is very busy, so book in advance.

If you prefer extra flexibility, It is also possible to schedule your lessons at the school after having your lesson.

If I start with an intensive schedule and suddenly I have to change it, it’s possible?

Yes, private lessons offer full flexibility. You just have to get in touch with us beforehand and we will reschedule your lessons the way that fits you best.

How do I reschedule or cancel my private lessons?

If you would like to reschedule or cancel a lesson, you need to send us a written message at any time 4 hours before the your lesson starts. If you do so, your lesson will remain unused.

Is there any way to lose lessons from my lessons package?

The only way of losing your lesson is by not notifying a cancelation or reschedule 4 hours before your lesson starts as well as not showing up.

How long does a group course last for?

There is no set date for the end of the course, we will continue for as long as we have the minimum number of students.

How big are the groups?

The groups have a maximum of 10 students.

Which days does the non-intensive course run?

They normally run Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday. 

What do I have to bring with me for the trial?

As it is just a trial you don’t need to bring anything, just bring a pen and some paper if you would like to make some notes.

How long does the trial lesson last for?

The trial lasts for the same time that the course you will try. For example, trying an intensive course means that you will try for 3 hours maximum.

As it is a trial, you could leave earlier if you wish so.

Yes, our reception is open from 11:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Thursday. We could also help you outside business hours by appointment.
